Joanne McCartney AM relays concerns about GTR poor performance

I have received a number of complaints regarding the reliability of the Northern Line and, as a regular user myself, I share the frustrations an unreliable train service produces. To get to the bottom of this issue, I wrote a letter to Govia Thameslink Railway about the cancellations and delays on the Great Northern Line. In my letter, I expressed mine and others’ concerns about the apparent deterioration of the service in recent times and asked what was being done to remedy this problem.

At a meeting earlier this year, the Govia team sought to reassure me that services would improve, yet services seem to have declined with cancellations and delays becoming more commonplace. It was conveyed by the Govia team at the meeting that they were facing a problem with driver recruitment, and were 30-40 drivers short but have plans in place to recruit additional drivers.

I have asked Govia to provide me with an explanation for the causes of this problem and what is being done to improve it. I also requested an update on the proposal for the closure of ticket offices following the consultation earlier this year. I will continue to keep you updated when I receive a response.
